Several trees in the older portion of Middlefield Road, between Fifth Avenue and Ninth Avenue, were planted about 24 years ago by San Mateo County. Unfortunately, many of these trees have not thrived, some have died and have never been replaced, and the existing trees do not have irrigation. As a result, this part of our community lacks the shade and the environmental benefits that were originally intended.
In 2024, North Fair Oaks residents signed a petition asking San Mateo County to replace missing and dying trees, install irrigation, and improve tree care along this section of Middlefield Road. Unfortunately, no action has been taken in the last two years.
With new County leadership, we have a fresh opportunity to advocate for these improvements. We are now renewing our petition to show that this issue remains important to our community.
We are asking San Mateo County to:
- Replace all missing and dying trees between Fifth Avenue and Ninth Avenue;
- Install irrigation so that existing and newly planted trees can thrive and provide much-needed shade; and
- Increase outreach and education about proper tree care and encourage business owners to leave tree pruning to qualified professionals or risk fines for damaging trees planted in the public way.
Even if you signed the original petition, your support again will help demonstrate that this issue remains unresolved and continues to matter to our community.
Please consider signing our updated petition below.
