Air pollution can come from many places, like fires, car exhaust pipes, and secondhand smoke. When the air outside is polluted, it can be difficult to breathe and cause serious health problems. On June 3, 2024, there was an eight-alarm fire at the Mercy housing complex under construction in North Fair Oaks. The fire lasted several hours and the smoke was visible for miles. When this happened, it became obvious why it is important to know what to do when the air outside is unhealthy.
Air pollution could be hard to see but still be bad for you. To help this problem, air purifiers can be used to make the air cleaner inside your home. Commercial air purifiers can be expensive but NFOCA volunteers will teach you how to make an effective air filter at home for a much lower cost. NFOCA holds workshops on how to make a DIY air purifier to stay safe!
